I've Analyzed 750+ Landing Pages. Here are the 11 Mistakes That Quietly Kill Conversions.

Over the last few years, I've analyzed over 750 landing pages from startups trying to scale. While every product is unique, the mistakes founders make are incredibly predictable. When a page has high traffic but low conversions, the culprit is almost always one of these 11 silent conversion killers.
Here are the most common landing page mistakes I see, exactly why they happen, and how you can fix them today.
Note before we begin
I am the founder of PagesThatPrint, where we maintain a gallery of SaaS pages with verified Stripe/Paddle revenue. I also run a private service where founders pay me to personally roast their landing pages. This list is built directly from the patterns I've seen in the trenches.
Mistake 1: The visitor feels no pain
The problem: Your visitor actually does have the problem you solve, but your page doesn't make them feel the pain acutely enough, so they leave without acting.
The fix: Use the PAS (Pain-Agitate-Solution) framework. Don't just say "we save you time." Say "stop wasting 14 hours a week manually entering data." Look at how makerbox.club explicitly agitates the pain of early-stage growth, or how Trendtrack agitates the pain of missing out on viral e-commerce trends.
Mistake 2: Objections are ignored
The problem: The visitor has doubts ("Will this integrate with my stack?", "Is it hard to set up?"), but you wait until after they sign up to answer them. They never sign up.
The fix: Review your support tickets or sales calls. Put the answers to the top 3 objections directly on the landing page, either in an FAQ accordion or right beneath the hero CTA. Notice how convertkit.com addresses objections early on.
Mistake 3: Weak or irrelevant social proof
The problem: You either have no testimonials, or you use text-only quotes from "John D." that look completely fake. Modern buyers are highly skeptical.
The fix: Use faces, full names, and company roles. Even better: embed real Tweets or unedited video testimonials. If a visitor doesn't trust you, they won't buy, no matter how good the copy is. See how modestmitkus.com handles this brilliantly.
Mistake 4: You aren't speaking to the visitor
The problem: You don't actually know why visitors are leaving because you've never asked them.
The fix: Implement a simple exit-intent survey (or use a tool like PostHog) to ask leaving visitors: "What was missing on this page?" The answers will write your next iteration of copy for you.
Mistake 5: Flying blind on analytics
The problem: You are tweaking headlines and changing button colors, but you don't actually know your baseline conversion rate.
The fix: Install proper product analytics (like PostHog or Microsoft Clarity). You need to know exactly where people stop scrolling and where they rage-click.
Are you making these mistakes right now?
Founders are often too close to their own product to see the friction. Stop guessing why visitors are bouncing.

The problem: Your page is full of complex industry jargon and buzzwords. Confusion always leads to a bounce.
The fix: Write at an 8th-grade reading level. Remove all initialisms. Test your copy with a tool like readable.com. If a 12-year-old can't understand what your product does in 5 seconds, your copy is too complicated.
Mistake 7: No Unique Selling Proposition (USP)
The problem: You sound exactly like every other tool in your space. The visitor has no idea why they should pick you over the incumbent.
The fix: Add direct comparison language. Use phrases like "The only platform built specifically for X" or include an "Us vs. Them" comparison table. Great examples of this are usefathom.com and june.so.
Mistake 8: All tell, no show
The problem: Your page is just walls of text claiming how great your software is, without any visual evidence.
The fix: Humans process visuals 60,000x faster than text. Show your product UI in the hero section. Use interactive demos, GIFs, or walkthroughs to prove that the software actually exists and looks good. Check out savvycal.com to see this done perfectly.
Mistake 9: Centered on "Us", not "You"
The problem: Your copy says "We built an amazing tool" or "Our platform features..." Your visitor does not care about you; they care about themselves.
The fix: Run a Ctrl+F for "we" and "our." Replace them with "you" and "your." Flip the perspective so the visitor is the hero of the story, exactly like buffer.com does.
Mistake 10: Walls of text
The problem: Your features section looks like a novel. Nobody reads on the internet—they scan.
The fix: Break up long paragraphs. Use clear, descriptive headings, bullet points, and bold text to highlight key metrics, similar to llamalife.co.
Mistake 11: The Missing or Hidden CTA
The problem: The visitor actually likes what you do and is ready to convert, but there is no Call-To-Action nearby. They have to scroll all the way back to the top.
The fix: Make sure there is a clear CTA in every major section. Better yet, lock your primary CTA to a sticky navigation bar so it is ALWAYS available, especially on mobile devices, like on dovetailapp.com.
